About us

Community Ventures (Middlesbrough) Limited (CVL) is a community anchor organisation in the heart of East Middlesbrough. We were set up by the community in 1989 to create safe spaces and more connected communities, by removing barriers to learning, movement and growth for young people, adults and families. We work with funders and partners to facilitate childcare and youth programmes, engagement activities, affordable housing, jobs and volunteering. We also provide a base for other voluntary and support organisations to offer specialist training and outreach activities.

Established in 1989, we are here because both the Thorntree and North Ormesby areas experience extreme pockets of deprivation, unemployment, and shorter life expectancy. The negative impact this has on local people's mental health, aspirations, health, and finances are incredibly high, so we act as a catalyst for change.
